A labour organization, with some resemblance to a union, formed in the USA in 1869. It was very large in the 1880s but had declined by 1890. It finally died in 1949. Its original name was Noble and Holy Order of the Knights of Labor but that was dropped in 1882.
The Knights entered Ontario perhaps in 1875, certainly by 18811. A history of the
Knights in Ontario is online2.
