Societies of St. George had been founded in the then North American Colonies for the relief of British immigrants and to give them general assistance in the new country1. The earliest Canadian Society was in Halifax (1786). The first Ontario Society was Toronto (1834)2.
The various city Societies appear to be independent but there was a head office in Toronto <1895 - 1903>.
There was a Ladies Auxillary in Ottawa <1916>.
