A Catholic fraternal organization1, 2 founded in the USA in 1882. It started as a mutual benefit society serving low-income Catholic immigrants but it gradually grew to cover the whole Catholic spectrum. It still has a life insurance program.

The first Canadian Council was formed in 1897 in Montreal. The first Ontario Council was formed in 19003. A State Council, responsible for Ontario, was formed in 1904.

Originally Roman Catholic men between the ages of 18 and 45 were eligible.

The Order has four degrees, which are numbered. Most members take only the first three degrees.

The local unit is a Council, Fourth degree members meet in Assemblies.
