Organized 1891 Nov 19 essentially to promote the financial solvency of its members and encourage sounder actuarial processes for their life insurance. At the time about a quarter of Canadian life insurance was written by fraternal and benevolent societies. It was incorporated on 1894 Nov 2.

The following societies were represented at the 1893 annual meeting:
– Ancient Order of Foresters
– Ancient Order of United Workmen
– Canadian Order of Chosen Friends
– Canadian Order of Home Circles
– Canadian Relief Society
– Independent Order of Foresters
– Independent Order of Odd Fellows Relief Association
– Knights of the Maccabees
– Royal Arcanum
– Royal Templars of Temperance
– Select Knights of Canada

The organization still exists.
